About This Project
A collaborative project between Diné weavers, small-scale shepherds, and plant ecologists to revive the use of Churro wool and native dye plants in traditional Navajo weaving. Rosa Begay coordinates the weaver network, connecting families who still hold the knowledge of natural dye preparation with younger weavers seeking to reclaim the full fiber-to-loom process.
Documented Impact
18 weaver families enrolled. 3 heritage Churro flocks established. 22 native dye plant species documented and propagated.
