Makers Rooted in Place.

Ceramics & Clay

Amara shapes vessels from local clay harvested along the Rio Grande watershed, embedding ancestral Ghanaian and Pueblo patterns into every piece. Her work bridges two traditions of earth-working — one from West Africa, one from the American Southwest — finding the common ground in the land itself.

Painting

Lena paints the Sangre de Cristo mountains in natural pigments she harvests herself from the valley floor — ochres, umbers, and iron-rich reds that carry the geology of the land into the canvas. Her large-format works are held in collections across the Southwest.

Textiles

Yuki weaves with locally grown indigo and traditional backstrap loom techniques learned during years living in Oaxaca. She now grows her own dye plants on a small farm outside Durango, creating textiles that carry the color of the high desert in every thread.

Pen & Ink

Marcus documents neighborhood histories through hand-carved woodblock prints. His series on Tucson's Barrio Viejo — printed on handmade paper from recycled community newspapers — has become a landmark of Southwest urban folk art.

Jewelry

Rosa is a third-generation Navajo weaver and silversmith from the Gallup area. Her rugs follow traditional Two Grey Hills patterns passed down through her family, while her silverwork incorporates contemporary forms with classic stamp work and turquoise from local mines.

Furniture

Daniel builds furniture and objects from reclaimed vigas, old-growth ponderosa, and salvaged cottonwood from the Rio Grande bosque. Each piece carries the grain and history of trees that grew in this valley — some for over a century.
